Patrick J. McGinnis (Venture Capitalist and Author)
Webinar Series: The World Has Changed
Webinar Topic: How to positively channel FOMO (Fear of missing out)
Webinar Date: May 28, 2021
In this session, Patrick shows us how we can leverage the experiences of the past year to make better choices. The pandemic has compelled us to reimagine the world, reassess our choices and constructively deal with FOMO (Fear of missing out). But as we slowly inch towards a recovery phase and ready ourselves for the world to reopen, will be as calculated about our risks and opportunities? As someone who has closely studied human behaviour, Patrick shares insights that will help us better navigate the new ‘free’ world.
Patrick J, McGinnis is an international venture capitalist and the author of the recent book Fear of Missing Out: Practical Decision-Making in a World of Overwhelming Choice. Patrick coined the term FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) in a 2004 article in the student newspaper of Harvard Business School. It has since been added to the dictionary and FOBO (Fear of better options) has become an increasingly popular framework to describe choice paralysis.
Patrick is the host of the hit business and entrepreneurship podcast, FOMO Sapiens and the author of the international bestseller The 10% Entrepreneur: Live Your Startup Dream Without Quitting Your Day Job. He has been featured in The New York Times, Politico, The Financial Times, Corriere della Serra, CNN, MSNBC, The Guardian, and Inc, and he gave a popular 2019 TED Talk on FOBO and decision-making.
