About The Speaker:
Harssh A Poddar (IPS Officer, Superintendent of Police, Beed District, Maharashtra):
Harssh A Poddar is a Chevening Scholar and an Oxford-educated lawyer, who left a corporate career in London to join the Indian Police Service (IPS). He works on initiatives such as youth empowerment to combat terror, career counselling for adolescents, prevention of mob violence, combating fake news and transforming rural police stations into people-friendly institutions.
Currently the Superintendent of Police for Beed District, he has championed the strongest crackdown on fake news during the COVID-19 crisis in Maharashtra and has also addressed the Harvard India Conference in 2019 on handling of fake news.
He believes that there as a crucial role of human engagement between the police and citizenry in preventing crime and terror while expressing the need for knowledge-based and community-centric law enforcement.

The COVID-19 induced pandemic has been a testing time for all government and civil bodies. While all doctors, paramedics and healthcare workers have been our frontline heroes – risking their lives by tackling and battling against this adversary, policing across the country has faced its own unique challenges. Join Harssh A Poddar (Superintendent of Police for Beed District, Maharashtra) and Arjit Sen Thakur (Superintendent of Police, Hamirpur District, Himachal Pradesh) as they share the challenges they have faced and the crucial steps they have taken to ensure their districts are safe. From the small town of Beed to the hilly terrain of Hamirpur, they will discuss the impact of the pandemic on two unique and different parts of the country.
