Webinar Series: The World Has Changed
Webinar Topic: Can Artificial Intelligence be conscious too?
Webinar Date: February 6, 2021
We are living in the age of AI. This has been possible due to the convergence of large-scale data and compute infrastructure with deep learning algorithms. Yet, we are far from achieving human-level performance in terms of generalizability across domains.
In this session, we identify key ingredients needed to close this gap and draw inspiration from biological mechanisms in our brains to design such generalizable AI.
Our intelligence is compositional, conscious, and can reason about causality. We look at recent research to build such capabilities in AI algorithms – this includes the construction of benchmarks to carefully test compositional capabilities of AI and building conscious AI with feedback mechanisms, inspired by perception mechanisms in our brains.
Anima Anandkumar is a Bren Professor at Caltech and Director of ML Research at NVIDIA.
She was previously a Principal Scientist at Amazon Web Services.
She has received several honors such as the IEEE fellowship, Alfred. P. Sloan Fellowship, NSF Career Award, Young investigator awards from DoD, and Faculty Fellowships from Microsoft, Google, Facebook, and Adobe. She is part of the World Economic Forum’s Expert Network.
She is passionate about designing principled AI algorithms and applying them in interdisciplinary applications.
