The Future of Education & Learning in a Disruptive Environment
TEDxGateway Webinar: Geeta Dharmarajan (Padma Shri Awardee & Founder, Katha) & Kiran Bir Sethi (Founder, Design for Change) in conversation with Sanjana Chowhan (News Anchor & Multimedia Journalist).
Webinar Series: The World Has Changed
Webinar Topic: The Future of Education and Learning in a Disruptive Environment
About The Webinar:
Since the COVID-19 lockdown was imposed in India, around 320 million students have been affected by school closures. Though the government has recommended shifting to ‘online teaching’, it ignores India’s immense digital divide – with embedded gender and class divides.
The clear disruption in the ‘normal’ functioning of education has placed an emphasis on many questions, which were previously asked and subsequently left unanswered. So, what could the current effects of this global pandemic mean for the future of education?
Why should you attend?
Join the founders of Katha and Design for change, two organisations that have championed the cause of alternative learning and thinking to empower a generation of students, as they give us insights and share solutions on the far reaching impact of the lockdown on education systems for each part of society and how different stakeholders can come together and combat the same.
About The Speakers:
Geeta Dharmarajan (Founder, Katha):

Geeta Dharmarajan was also named “frugal innovator” by the Millennium Alliance, set up by the governments of India and the US; and the co-winner of Business Standard Award for the Social Entrepreneur of the year, 2018. Kiran Bir Sethi (Founder, Design For Change):
Kiran Bir Sethi is a Designer who became a Teacher, a Principal who grew into an Education Reformer and subsequently morphed into a Social Entrepreneur. A trained Graphic Designer, she comfortably uses the language of Design – iteration, prototype, design specs – to develop not only curriculum innovation, but also community-based Social Programmes.
In 2009, Kiran launched “Design for Change” which uses a simple 4 step design framework – FIDS (Feel, Imagine, Do, Share) to cultivate the I CAN mind-set in all children. Today, DFC is the world’s largest movement of change – of and by children, and is in 60 countries — impacting over 2.2 million children and 65,000 Teachers.
Kiran is also the founder of ‘aProCh’—an initiative to make our cities more child friendly, for which she was awarded the Ashoka Fellow in 2008. In 2009, she received the “Call to Conscience Award” by the King Centre at Stanford.
Sanjana Chouhan (News Anchor & Multimedia Journalist):
Sanjana Chowhan is a multimedia journalist, news anchor and a thoroughbred Bombayite. Besides broadcast and radio experience, she has written for several publications on a host of topics ranging from psychological disorders like prosopagnosia to the puritanical online censorship of menstruation. Armed with an open mind, a good sense of humour (if she says so herself) and a penchant for the undiscovered, Sanjana hopes to inspire many to do the same.
